Meeting Distributors at Medlab Middle East 2024 in Dubai
Medlab Middle East remains the principal laboratory and diagnostics trade event for the Gulf region, and QL Biotek returned to it in 2024. The exhibition ran from 5 to 8 February 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where we hosted visitors at booth Z2 E13.
This article summarises what we presented in Dubai, which product families drew the most attention from regional buyers, and how importers, distributors and IVD manufacturers who did not attend can still open a discussion with our export team.
Why Dubai matters for rapid-test exporters
The Middle East sits at a useful crossroads for in-vitro diagnostics. Gulf states invest heavily in hospital and laboratory infrastructure, while re-export markets around the UAE give distributors access to neighbouring countries with a single logistics hub. For a rapid-test manufacturer, that combination means both volume potential and a demanding technical audience: hospital procurement staff, laboratory directors and regulatory-minded importers all visit the same hall.
Medlab Middle East concentrates that audience into four days. It is one of the few events where a manufacturer can place cassette formats, membrane chemistry and packaging options directly into the hands of people who specify tenders, rather than only talking to trading intermediaries.
What QL Biotek showed at booth Z2 E13
Our stand was organised by test category rather than by technology, so buyers could walk the range in the order their own catalogues are usually structured. The families on display were:
- Infectious disease rapid tests — immunochromatographic assays covering the respiratory and tropical disease panels most frequently requested in regional tenders.
- SARS-CoV-2 rapid test kits — antigen formats that remain part of routine stock programmes for hospitals and occupational screening.
- Fertility test kits — hormone-based one-step assays for clinic and point-of-care use.
- Cardiac marker tests — emergency-department oriented panels read within a short incubation window.
- One-step tumor marker tests — screening and follow-up assays for laboratory and outpatient settings.
- Drug of abuse test kits — urine-based panels for workplace, forensic and clinical toxicology.
- Animal health tests — a growing category for veterinary distributors.
- Uncut sheets — supplied for partners who run their own filling, cutting and packaging lines under local branding.
Each of these lines is available in the formats buyers typically ask about at a show: individually foil-wrapped cassettes, midstream or dropper formats where applicable, and export cartons sized for container loading. Detailed specifications, insert text and pack configurations are confirmed per order rather than published as fixed stock items.
What visitors asked about most
Three themes dominated our conversations at Z2 E13.
Registration and documentation. Importers in the Gulf asked early and often which dossiers accompany a shipment. The practical answer is that documentation packages are assembled against the destination country's requirements, so the first step in any follow-up conversation is naming the target market and the registration route the buyer intends to use.
Private labelling and uncut sheets. Several distributors who already carry established brands wanted to know whether they could move production in-house. For partners with cutting and filling capacity, uncut sheet supply is the straightforward route: the membrane chemistry and conjugates are produced and quality-controlled here, and the final assembly, labelling and carton work happens locally.
Stability in hot climates. Storage conditions were raised repeatedly, given summer temperatures in the region. Rapid tests are shipped with defined storage temperature ranges, and our team reviews transport and warehousing conditions with each buyer so that the cold chain expectations are agreed before the first purchase order.
Building on last year's relationships
The 2024 appearance followed our previous participation at the same exhibition, where a number of quality customers were gained and cooperative relationships established. Several of those conversations resumed at Z2 E13, and the product interest coming out of the UAE this time extended beyond the infectious disease core into fertility, cardiac marker and animal health lines. That breadth matters to distributors who prefer to consolidate suppliers rather than run separate qualification processes for every category.
For buyers who could not attend
Trade shows are only one contact point. If your company did not reach Dubai in February, the same product range, specification sheets and sample arrangements are available directly through the QL Biotek export team. Useful information to include in an enquiry:
- the test categories you intend to distribute;
- the countries where you hold or plan to hold registration;
- whether you need finished kits or uncut sheets for local packaging;
- your estimated annual volume, so that carton and container planning can be discussed early.
With those four points, we can respond with a specific product list, available formats and the documentation relevant to your market, usually within one working day.
Where we exhibit next
QL Biotek maintains a regular presence at major European and Asian diagnostics fairs in addition to Medlab Middle East. Exhibition dates and booth numbers are announced through our news section as they are confirmed, and meetings scheduled in advance are always prioritised over walk-up conversations on the stand.
FAQ
Which booth did QL Biotek occupy at Medlab Middle East 2024?
We exhibited at booth Z2 E13 during Medlab Middle East, held from 5 to 8 February 2024 in Dubai. Visitors met our export staff there and reviewed the full rapid test range, from infectious disease and SARS-CoV-2 kits to fertility, cardiac marker, tumor marker, drug of abuse and animal health tests, as well as uncut sheet supply.
Do you supply uncut sheets for local packaging?
Yes. Partners with their own cutting, filling and labelling capacity can source uncut sheets directly from us. The membrane and conjugate production stays under our quality control, while final assembly and carton branding are handled locally, which shortens lead times for private-label programmes.
How do I request samples and specifications after the exhibition?
Send an enquiry to the QL Biotek export team stating your target test categories, destination countries, preferred format (finished kits or uncut sheets) and estimated annual volume. We reply with the matching product list, technical specifications and the documentation relevant to your market, normally within one working day.
